Jess Maines, 76, of Meadville, died Saturday, September 17, 1988, at Meadville Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Mr. Maines was born in Kylertown, May 19, 1912, a son of Solomon and Lottie Whitton Maines. He married Viola Smith October 3, 1933. She survives.
He retired from the former FMC Corp. as a foreman after 37 years of service. He was a founding member of Meadville Area Little League Baseball. He was a charter member of the East Mead VFD.
He was a member of Wayland Baptist Church; Masonic Lodge 408 and Timothy Alden Council 60, both of Meadville; Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie; West Erie Shrine Club; Crawford County Shrine Club, NW PA Shrine Assn., $100 Million Club of Zem Zem Temple; the Elks Lodge, Williamsport; the National Rifle Assn.; and Kismet Grotto, Meadville; and was a past president of the grotto's Mystic Club.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Andrews; one son, Richard J. Maines of Meadville; three sisters, Lulu Shimel of Fairfax, VA, Dorothy Shoffner of Morrisdale and Violetta Emilinski of Glen Burnie, MD; one brother, Charles O. Maines of Kylertown; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and eight sisters.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
