Mrs. Jessie V. Beiler, 94, formerly of Spring St., Meadville, and the widow of the Rev. Dr. Irwin Ross Beiler, died of Saturday, January 2, 1982 at the United Methodist Home and Nursing Hospital following an extended illness. She was born Jessie Ann Virtue on November 21, 1887, near Blooming Valley in Randolph Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James Charles Virtue, orginally of Armagh, Ontario, Canada and Lucetta Frankenberger Virtue orginally of Dempseytown, PA. After attending public schools in Blooming Valley, she graduated from Slippery Rock Pennsylvania State Normal School and took additional graduate work in Geography at Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts. She was a teacher in the public school system of Beaver, PA, until 1923 when she moved to Meadville and taught the Seventh Grade in the North Ward School, Meadville. She continued teaching until the time of her marriage on July 3, 1937, to Irwin Ross Beiler, Ph.D., a Methodist clergyman and Professor of Religion at Allegheny College. Mrs. Beiler was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and the former Traveler's Club of Meadville. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. W. Bentley (Dorothy) Burr of Findlay, OH; five step-sons, Dr. Adam Clarke of Annapolis, MD, Dr. Ross Crates of Coral Gables, FL, Charles Kelsey of Lake Helen, FL, Dr. David Davis of Riverside, PA and Dr. Theodore Wiseman of DeLand, FL; eleven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Mabel V. Waid and Mrs. Alta V. Russell and two brothers, Ernest Virtue and Ivan Virtue. Services were held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home.
