Jewel M. Thrower, 88, of Meadville, died Monday, March 24, 1997 at her residence following a period of declining health.
She was born December 10, 1908 in Oxford, AL, a daughter of the late Green B. and Lola Grubbs Hughes. She had been married first to William F. Edson and later to Kern Thrower.
Mrs. Thrower was owner and operator of the former Jewel's Dairy Bar and Grocery Store on Baldwin Street. She also operated a beauty shop out of her former home and had worked at Talon as a production worker during WWII. She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and Mead Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include one son, Charles R. Edson of Saratoga, CA; a brother, John W. Hughes of Ormond Beach, FL and also nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Edson and a sister, Grace Mangan.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
