Jimmy Darrell Chapman, 82, of Meadville died Friday, May 19, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Piney, West Virginia July 16, 1934 a son of Lonnie Dale and Helen Knight Chapman.  He married Joyce Diane Bertram June 1, 1956 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Saegertown High School and attended Allegheny College.  He received both his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in Education from Edinboro University.  He was a science teacher at Linesville High School for 26 years, retiring in 1996.  Prior to going to college, he worked as a lab analyst for 18 years at American Viscose Corp.  He was a veteran of the US Navy serving from March 1956-November 1957.

He was a member of Hamlin Chapel United Methodist Church, Conneautville Western Crawford Masonic Lodge #258, Kismet Grotto, Zem Zem Shrine Club Erie, Legion of Honor and the Crawford County Shrine Club, Meadville Elks Lodge #219, Golden Crown Chapter #44 Order of Eastern Star and the Crawford Amateur Radio Club, call sign N3GMR.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Joyce of 60 years, include: four sons, John Chapman and his wife LuAnn of Conneautville, James Chapman and his fiancée Mary Lehman of Saegertown, Jeffrey Chapman and his wife Mary Michelle of Conneautville and Frederick (Rick) Chapman of Meadville; ten grandchildren, Heather Chapman Onderko and her husband Jason, Diana Chapman Schultz, Nicole Chapman, Joel Chapman, Adam Chapman and his wife Molly, Samantha Chapman Bidwell and her husband Brandon, Michael Chapman and his fiancée LeeAnn, Casey Chapman, Jacob Chapman and Jessica Chapman; a step-grandson, Joshua Hanley and his wife Chrissie; four great grandchildren, Kayleigh Schultz, Payton Chapman, Raena Chapman and Theodore Onderko; two step-great grandsons, Alex Eichacker and Joshua Eichacker and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Chapman Wybiral.

Calling hours will be Monday from 3:30-5:30 and 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  There will be a Masonic Service at 7:15 p.m. followed by an Elks Service at 7:30 p.m.  Additional calling hour will be Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

The memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Lea Guiney, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Union City, officiating.
