Joanne C. Burchard

January 6, 1928 — February 16, 2006

Joanne C. Burchard, 78, of Guys Mills, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at UPMC Northwest Hospital in Franklin.

She was born in Cochranton January 6, 1928, a daughter of the late William H. and Hazel Oakes Cutshall.  She married Francis Merle Burchard September 24, 1949, and he survives.

She attended first grade in Cochranton and then Black Ash Elementary School, and graduated in 1945 Randolph High School.  She graduated from Orra Jean Beauty Academy of Erie, and owned and operated Joanne’s Beauty Shop in Meadville for 5 years.  She spent many years as a 4-H leader, and retired as a Teacher’s Aid from Penncrest School District after 22 years of service.

Joanne was a faithful member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church since 1940, a former Sunday School Teacher for many years, and a past president of its United Methodist Women.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cooking, quilting, crocheting afghans, canning, playing cards, sharing her sense of humor and was an avid Maplewood sports fan.

Survivors in addition to her husband of 56 years, include: two daughters, Marsha Kay Burchard of Los Angeles, CA and Jane Agner and her husband Julius of Bluffton, OH; two sons, Dennis Burchard and his wife Marsha of Guys Mills, and Douglas Burchard and his wife Penny of Summerville, SC; seven grandchildren, Jerrod, Jonah and Joel Agner of Bluffton, OH, Amy Hummel and her husband Scott of Pittsburgh, Evan Burchard of Guys Mills and Cory and Hannah Burchard of Summerville, SC; one great granddaughter, Gretchen Hummel; one brother, Russell Cutshall and his wife Patty of Fort Valley, VA, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St. Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ted Cole, former pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
