Joanne P. LaTourette, 74, of 391 E. John St., Meadville, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
She was born December 4, 1930 in Kittanning, a daughter of the late Reeves and Leona Smith Weaver. She married Eugene E. LaTourette June 8, 1963 and he survives.
She was a 1947 valedictorian graduate of Confluence High School, Confluence. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Waynesburg College in 1951 and her masters in library science (MSLS) from Case Western Reserve University in 1963. She worked as a librarian at Allegheny College for 28 years. She was a volunteer at the Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community’s Memory Support Center, a docent at the Baldwin-Reynolds House, a member of the Meadville Women’s Club, and a member of the Friendly Couples Bridge Club. She enjoyed music, cooking, reading, and playing card games, was an avid gardener, and was particularly fond of spoiling her grandchildren.
She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and was formerly affiliated with North Richmond United Methodist Church and Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of 41 years, include 7 children, Claudia Mayer and her husband Christopher of Windham, NH; Steven C. LaTourette and his wife, Jennifer of Painesville, OH; Mark Dobson and his wife Maria of Howell, MI; Andrew B. LaTourette and his wife Terrie of Chesterland, OH; Stephanie Dobson and her husband Peter Clark of St. Louis, MO; Eve L. Brooksieker and her husband David of Solon, OH; and Sarah LaTourette Thomas and her husband John of Willoughby, OH; a brother, Richard Weaver and his wife Doris of Glen Rock; 13 grandchildren, Jessica Peterson, Lauren Mayer, Sarah, Sam, Claire, Amy, Scott, and Robert LaTourette, Graham and Ian Clark, Erica Brooksieker, and Gordon and Phoebe Thomas; 1 great-granddaughter, Victoria Faith Peterson; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are today (Sunday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
