John C. Boyd

October 1, 1860 — April 25, 1942

John C. Boyd, who served as superintendent of the Crawford County Home for 11 years, and who through other work had become well known all over the county, died at his home near Guys Mills early Saturday, April 25, 1942.

He was 81 years of age and had suffered a stroke about four weeks ago.

Mr. Boyd began his work at the county farm in February of 1925, and held it until the spring of 1936.  Before that time, he was engaged as a salesman for nursery stock in counties in northwestern Pennsylvania and since 1936 had lived at his farm home.

For 45 years he was a member of the Congregational Church at Guys Mills and held the office of deacon at the time of his death.  He was a member of the Knights of Maccabees at Edinboro and of the Randolph Grange.

Mr. Boyd is survived by his widow, the former Myrtle Bentley; one daughter, Mrs. Stuart Palmer of Greatneck; three sons, Howard of Guys Mills, Orison of Warren, PA and James of Meadville; one sister, Mrs. Andrew Graham, and two brothers, Dr. M. V. Boyd and Chester Boyd, all of Meadville.  There are 10 grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
