John C. Byham

May 10, 1918 — December 13, 2002

John C. Byham, 84, of A7 Concord House, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Guys Mills, May 10, 1918, a son of Allen S. & Ruby Tanner Byham.  He married Irene Hanna June 14, 1941 and she preceded him in death May 21, 1994.  He subsequently married Rosella Dunlap Black Jan 11, 1997 and she survives.

He retired in 1981 as a Spinner from Avtex after 29 years of service.  He had also worked at Goodyear Aircraft, Phoenix, AZ; Talon; and farming in Randolph Township.

He was a 1936 graduate of Randolph High School, Guys Mills, and a Veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in North Africa, Italy, and the China, India, Burma Theatre of operations.  He was a Member of Meadville Elks Lodge #219 and Meadville Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2006.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include 1 daughter, Judith Ridle of Meadville; 2 sons, John F. (Jack) Byham and his wife Mary Ann of Meadville and William R. Byham and his wife Marsha, of Guys Mills; 1 step-daughter, Shirley Baker and her husband Larry of Owasso, OK; 5 step-sons, Charles Black and his wife Mary of Silsbee, TX; Lee Black and his wife Jacqueline of Houston, TX; Francis Black of Lexington KY; Glen Black and his wife Grace of Albion, and T.J. Black and his wife Cindy of Conneaut, OH; 9 grandchildren, Mark & Eric Ridle, Diane Nottingham, Russell B. and James B. Byham, Brenda Kinder, Michael A. Byham, Melinda Urquhart, and Rebecca Pears; 22 great-grandchildren, also step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Raymond L. Byham of Burke Burnett, TX; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lewis R. and Robert A. Byham.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadvillle.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David Brumagin, Assistant Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Randolph Township will military honors provided by Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2006, Meadville.
