John Compton Dunn, 91, of Erie, retired radio and television newscaster who worked at stations in Ohio and Pennsylvania from 1949 to 1997, died in Erie at the age of 91 on Monday, January 21, 2019.
He was born May 26, 1927 in Meadville, a son of Dr. David and Katherine Bolard Dunn. He had been married to Frances Wiltrout who died in 2001.
John was a 1947 graduate of Meadville High School, was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving two years stationed in southern California, and attended Allegheny College.
In 1950, he began his broadcasting career at WMGW in Meadville as a staff announcer. He later worked as an announcer in Erie at WSEE television, as a newscaster at WJET radio in Erie, and part-time at WICU television in Erie until retiring in 1997.
Survivors include a sister, Beverly Ratcliffe of Duvall, WA; several nieces and nephews; and long-time friends, Sidney and Cynthia Himes of Harborcreek Township.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Dunn and a sister, Patricia Cutshall.
Private interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
