John F. Conner, 77, formerly of Chicago, and Mill Stream Apartments, Meadville, and a recent resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died at Meadville Medical Center Thursday Sept. 27, 2001.
He was born May 29, 1924, in Ashland, PA, a son of Leo and Catherine O’Brian Connor. He married Dorothy V. LeComte, Jan. 7, 1948, at St. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church in Pettis. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1942, and enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. in1943. He served in the South Pacific in World War II and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Corporal. He then worked for the Erie Railroad in Meadville and used the G I bill to attend Allegheny College. In 1948 he moved to
Chicago and graduated from the Commercial Trade Institute. Having worked for several companies in the Chicago area in Management, Purchasing, and Production Control, he retired in 1989 from Aren’s Controls. He and his wife relocated to Meadville several years after his retirement.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 53 years include a brother Charles Connor and his wife Betty of Meadville, and a sister Kathleen Hellman and her husband Donald of Ashtabula and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home 581 Chestnut St where a wake service will be held Sunday at 3:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Hippolytes Roman Catholic Church, Frenchtown, with the Rev. B. LaMonte Sayers, officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Pettis.
