John F. Hamilton, Jr., 72 of Stoneboro, passed away on March 18, 2020, at his home. John was born on April 24, 1947 in New Lebanon to the late John F. Sr., and Margaret Pearl (Hill) Hamilton. He was a graduate of Lakeview High School. John proudly served his Country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He earned two purple heart medals while serving. After his service, John owned and operated Hamilton’s Quaker State, Napa Auto Parts, and H&M Car Wash, all in Stoneboro. He also worked for 26 years for National Fuel as a welder at the Henderson Station. John was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandson. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and taking rides in his truck “Big Red”. John was a member of Lake Lodge #434 F&AM, in Sandy Lake. He was with the singing group, Brothers of the Son, at the Stoneboro United Methodist Church for many years. John was a member of the New Lebanon Community Church and loved his Sunday School Class there. John wishes for everyone to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ, “It Will Be Worth It All”. John Married his beloved wife, Rebecca “Lynn” Vogan on July 12, 1969, she survives at home. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his sons; John F. Hamilton, III, of York, SC, Jay Hamilton and wife Tammy of Sevierville, TN, daughter; Deanna Grantham and companion Mark Walker of Sandy Lake, grandchildren Mickenzie and Raelynn Hamilton, Gavin and Malina Grantham, and Shane and Katelynn Young, sisters; Fran Heckman and husband Ed of Sandy Lake, and Marjorie Medberry of Stoneboro, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of Stoneboro, 99 Franklin Street, where family and friends are welcome from 1-3 and 6-8 pm on Sunday, March 22. A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 23, at 11 am at the funeral home with the Rev. Virginia LaVan-Gadsby, officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard following the service. Private interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. If you are uncomfortable leaving your home during this time, the family understands.
