John Joseph Gionti, 78, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the Marquette Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
He was born January 30, 1942 in Meadville, a son of Joseph John and Madalena Euliano Gionti. He married Joyce Bengivenga February 6, 1965.
John was a 1960 graduate of Meadville High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. He was employed as a tool maker at Channellock for 39 years. In retirement, John worked part-time at Meadville Medical Center for 13 years.
John was a member of St. Mary of Grace Church, and was also a member of VFW Post 2006, Vernon Central Hose Company and the Italian Civic Club where his grandfather was one of the founders.
He was a man of God, the hardest worker, and best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He set a foundation and was the perfect family man. He was always there with a laugh and a joke.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Joyce, include three sons, Chris Gionti (Tina) of Columbia City, IN, Johnny Gionti (Sue) of Saegertown and Joey Gionti (Jody) of Painesville, OH; ten grandchildren, Wes, Tara, Ashley, Kayla, Trevor, Joshua, Nikolai, Vincenzo, Stephanie and Gianna; six great-grandchildren, Ava, Lola, Haddly, Harper, Tatum and Lincoln and one soon to be born, Evelyn; two sisters, Carm Fischer of Meadville and Anna Ferguson of Greenville; nieces, nephews, cousins including special cousins, Anthony, Cindy, Phil and Nila Passilla; special friends, Pete Cremonese, Tony Pero and Joe Sherry; and his Tim Hortons buddies, Brian and Dominic Pruskowski, Mike Fiorillo, Jim Barco, Dan Smith, Greg Bush and Rodney Williams.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny Gionti and his wife Josephine.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 25th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE with a Scripture Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The wearing of masks is appreciated.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville with Fr. Marc Solomon as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery with military honors.
