John K. Duerr, 92, of Meadville, died Thuersday, May 8, 1997, at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.
He was born January 14, 1905 in New Martinsville, WV, a son of the late Edward S. and Elizabeth (Umstead) Duerr. He married Martha Gleason, September 8, 1934. She survives.
Mr. Duerr retired in 1970 as manager of Technical Sales and Service at Talon after 36 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of Theta Chu fraternity. He was a member of Stone Methodist Church, past president of its Board of Trustees and served on several other committees. In other civic affairs, Mr. Duerr was past president of the former West Mead Township School Board, past vice president of Meadville Area School Board, former director of United Housing Corp. of Meadville and Fairview Housing Corp. He and his wife were also both especially fond of volunteering their time at the Baldwin-Reynolds House.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Richard K. Duerr of Baton Rouge, LA and John C. Duerr of Louisville, KY; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George E. and Richard U. Duerr.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
