John L. Boyd

August 13, 1924 — April 23, 2015

John L. (Jack) Boyd, 90, of Townville, went home to be with his Lord surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Golden Living Center, Titusville.

He was born August 13, 1924 in Guys Mills, a son of Howard and Florence Shaffer Boyd.  He married Laura Richardson October 23, 1946 and she preceded him in death April 12, 2007.

Jack was a graduate of Randolph High School and was a Veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific Theater of Operations.  He worked as a meat cutter at Rex Carpenter Packing Company of Townville and subsequently worked as a manager of Dunn’s Meat Market of Cochranton.

Jack was an active member of Townville First Baptist Church where had been a member of the choir, was an usher, and had served on the trustee board for many years.  He was also a long-time member of the Townville Volunteer Fire Dept., assisted the fire department’s ladies auxiliary with their dinners, and helped with the annual Townville Old Home Days.  Jack was a life-member of the Bruce Shorts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5958, Titusville, was a former school board member of the Townville schools, and was an avid golfer and member of the elder statesmen of Green Acres Golf Course where he shot a hole in one.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Singleton and her husband Glen of Hannaville, Diane Hanna and her husband Donald of Townville, and Leslie Battin and her husband Kirk of Centerville; a son, Roger A. Boyd and his wife Blair Ellen of Troy Center; eleven grandchildren, Alyssa, Angela, Tammy, Lee, Candy, Dustin, Kylie, Natalie, Ryan, Michelle, and Trevor; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Miller of Guys Mills and Jean Rumsey and her husband Gene of Meadville; three brothers, Russell Boyd and his wife Virginia of Guys Mills, Dale Boyd and his wife Karol of Sanford, NC, and David Boyd and his wife Marilyn of Meadville; a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Boyd of Meadville; dear friends, Madolyn Patterson and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Boyd and a sister, Eloise Kosanovic.

Calling hours will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Townville First Baptist Church, 33274 N. Main St., Townville.

The funeral and committal service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. James Riley, Pastor, officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Bruce Shorts VFW Post 5958, Titusville.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
