John L. (Jack) Ladner, 70, of Conneaut Lake, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at UPMC Hamot, Erie.
He was born May 12, 1942 in Linesville, a son of Lawrence and Vera Estep Ladner. He married Mary Ann Cook June 29, 1963.
Jack attended Conneaut Lake High School and received his high school diploma while serving in the military. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1959 to 1962 in Japan and Korea. He worked as an engineer for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroads for 25 years.
Jack played baseball in 1967 in the Pymatuning Baseball League and remained active in local baseball throughout the years. He was the volunteer assistant coach with the Conneaut Lake High School baseball team from 1981 to 1997 and was an assistant coach for the LLV American Legion baseball team from 1991 to 1996. Jack enjoyed fishing and all sports and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Mary Ann of 49 years, include two sons, John Ladner and his partner Robert Coulter of Pittsburgh and Brian Ladner and his wife Carol of Conneaut Lake; a sister, Patricia Wilson of Meadville; a brother, Larry Fries and his wife Vera of Dillon, SC; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Ladner.
Calling hours will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake where the funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Brumagin, Associate Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church and Meadville Medical Center Chaplain, officiating.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Conneaut Lake with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Conneaut Area High School, Attention Boosters (for high school baseball boosters), Brandon Crum, 302 West School Dr., Linesville, PA 16424.
