John M. 'Jack' Rainier

June 7, 1932 — June 3, 2002

John M. “Jack” Rainier, 69, of 12070 Choctaw Circle, Conneaut Lake, PA died Monday, June 3, 2002 at UPMC Horizon Health Center, Greenville, PA following an extended illness.

He was born June 7, 1932 in New Kensington, PA a son of Merrill C. and Freida E. Sweitzer Rainier.  He married Dorothy Kelly Moran April 29, 1985 and she survives.

A 1950 graduate of New Castle High School, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Business Fraternity at Allegheny College, Meadville, where he graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration.

He was well known in the retail tire industry as the founder and co-owner of Silver Street Tire Company, Sharon, PA, Belmont Tire Company, Youngstown, OH and the Warren Tire Company, Warren, OH.  He was most recently employed prior to his retirement as a supervisor for Goodwill Industries in Youngstown, OH.

Survivors in addition to his wife Dorothy, include, four sons, John R. Rick Rainier of Fort Myers, FL, Rob Rainier of Hermitage, PA, Mark Rainier of Hermitage, PA and Richard W. Rainier of Transfer, PA; two daughter, Lynn Rainier McClafferty and Lesley Rainier both of Streetsboro, OH.  He is also survived by four stepsons, Mike Moran of Mesa, AZ, Ron Moran of Youngstown, OH, Ed Moran of Kidron, OH and Joe Moran of Youngstown, OH; two stepdaughters, Becky Moran Darbey of Howland, OH and Kathy Moran of Anchorage, Alaska, fifteen grandchildren his mother, Freida E. Rainier of New Castle, PA and a brother King Rainier of Upper St. Clair, PA.  He was preceded in death by his father, Merrill C. Rainier and a sister Joan Rainier Trent.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake, PA.

The funeral and committal service will be Friday at noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce K. Davis, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Conneaut Lake, officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Conneaut Lake, PA.
