John T. (Jack) McCombs, 77, of Conneaut Lake and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Golden Living Center, Meadville.
He was born in Pittsburgh, December 24, 1931 a son of Albert and Helen McCombs.
He was a veteran of the Korean War receiving two Purple Hearts. He served as Staff Sargent with the 11th Airborne.
He was part owner of Burger Chef in Pittsburgh and worked also as a machinist for Abex Corp. in Meadville.
His hobbies included playing the organ, reading and photography. He was also an avid history buff and loved trains. His pastimes included going to Conneaut Lake Park, Dairy Queen, Pymatuning Park, Kings Restaurant and the Senior Center in Meadville.
He is survived by his companion of 19 years, Sheila K. Steimer of Conneaut Lake; his former wife, Lois Ellen McCombs of Conneaut Lake; two daughters, Shirley Ann Mercier (Don) of Conneaut Lake and Kathleen L. McCombs of Meadville; two sons; a sister, Mildred Albert of Pittsburgh; three grandsons, James Mercier (Erin) of Conneaut Lake, John Mercier (Danielle) of Pittsburgh and Jeremy Mercier (Tamara Howick) of Conneaut Lake; two granddaughters, Cassandra Martin and Sherri Perry, both of Meadville; eleven great-grandchildren; five step-children; fourteen step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Charles and Norman McCombs.
Services were held with the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home.
