John (Arch) Melville, Sr., 74, of Meadville, died Wednesday, May 20, 1987, at Akron City Hospital, Akron, OH, following a brief illness.
He was born in Elizabeth, November 29, 1912, a son of Oliver and Martha Rue Melville. He had been married to Wilma Ribb.
Mr. Melville had last worked part-time in the security department at Channellock. He had previously been employed as a machinist with GATX, Saegertown, and had also worked as a machinist at Talon for a number of years. He was a member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219 and West Mead VFD.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bobby (Sandra) Horton and a son, John A. Melville, Jr., both of Joliet, IL; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Roberts of Tallamadge, OH, Mrs. Martha Elliott of Titusville and Mrs. Richard (Kathryn) Hackett of Centerville; two brothers, Craig Melville of Meadville and Donald Melville of Saegertown; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Oliver and Glenn Melville.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kingsley Cemetery.
