John Monroe Shrock, 47, of 9935 Greiser Road, Conneaut Lake, lost his three-year battle with cancer on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
He was born at home in Atlantic, March 6, 1961, the son of Neal and Ella Byler Shrock. He grew up in Atlantic with his six sisters and graduated from Conneaut Lake High School in 1979. He married Susan Esther Ross on October 5, 1985 and she survives.
As a youth John worked with his father’s construction firm. They later became partners in that business known as Shrock Associates. Upon his father’s retirement, John took over sole management of the firm. Recognized for his skill across the full range of construction from operation of heavy equipment to fine finish work, John built and remodeled many homes in the region. Over the years he also cleared land on Greiser Road and built a house and barn there for his family, where they moved in 1989 after living briefly in Harmonsburg. In 2005 after illness required John to dissolve his construction firm, he worked for J. H. Willow, Inc. of Waterford. In 2006 he became construction supervisor for Lancelot Construction Company, a division of Core Manufacturing, Inc. of Conneaut Lake.
In addition to his work and helping others, John took pleasure in visiting with friends and family, handling horses, playing the drums, hunting, riding his motorcycle, and driving his vintage Chevelle. His accepting nature and sense of humor won him many friends.
In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by, a son, Joshua, of Conneaut Lake and a daughter, Laura, of Conneaut Lake, six sisters, Mary Ellen Emley and her husband, Kent, of Lake Okeechobee, Florida; Laura Moen and her husband, Don, of Mobile, Alabama; Susan Phelps and her husband Craig, of Elk City, Oklahoma; Rachel Ransbarger and her husband, David, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ruth Workman of Bossier City, Louisiana; Esther Harrison and her husband, John, of Hartstown; his parents, Neal and Ella Shrock of Atlantic and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home Inc, 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake. The funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 240 N. Third Street, Conneaut Lake with Reverend William R. Green, Pastor, officiating.
Internment will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.
