John R. (Jack) Nestor, 80, of Meadville, died Thursday, December 20, 1979, at United Methodist Nursing Hospital following a five-week illness.
He was born at Hooversville October 9, 1899, son of John W. and Annie Berkeybile Nestor. He married Katherine K. Zipf February 28, 1924.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Sunne Hanna Lodge No. 742 of F & AM of Johnstown and the New Castle Consistory.
In his early life, he was building supervisor for Fred Zipf and Sons, general contractors, Johnstown, and then worked for Berkeybile Brothers of Johnstown in the same capacity. He was steel inspector of Bethlehem Steel Co. He worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers as inspector of flood control and during World War II, was inspector of war materials, traveling between Chicago and New York handling secret code shipping. He worked for the state Public School Building Authority as district inspector with 44 employees, having supervised the building of 263 schools over 12 years. He last worked as building inspector on City Hospital's addition.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John (Ardrienne) Windal of Falls Church, VA and Mrs. Charles (Greta) Shadley of Meadville; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Hughes of Pittsburgh; a brother, Donald Nestor of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.
