John O. Herman, 64, of Jamestown, passed away at home Tuesday, October 08, 2013 surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer.
He was born October 9, 1948 in Greenville a son of Lewis E. and Rosalie D. Dupal Herman. He married Darlene Hogue November 25, 1972 and she survives.
He was a 1966 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and was a part of its 1965 State basketball championship team. He then served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked as a mechanic on the Bessemer Railroad and farmed in the Westford area.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Darlene of 40 years, include: a son, John “Rob” Herman of Jamestown; two daughters, Jolene Resele of Jamestown and Aimee Herman of Jamestown; a grandson, Austin Yurisic of Jamestown; three sisters, Roberta Lahti and her husband Bob of Williamsfield, OH, Mary Herman of Westford and Jane Collins and her husband Jim of Pierpont, OH; a brother, Tom Herman and his wife Sue of Linesville; a sister-in-law, Kathy Herman of Greenville; his step-mother, Ann Herman of Greenville; two step-sisters, Maxine Parrish of Charlottesville, VA and Paula Rickert of Transfer; a step-brother, Dale Morell of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Herman.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Sister Norma Jean of Lakeland Area Hospice, officiating and military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 505 Poplar Street, Suite 310, Meadville or Future Farmers of America, Conneaut Area Senior High School Chapter, 302 West School Drive, Linesville, PA 16424 or a Local 4-H organization of your choice.
