John P. Short, 83, of Grandview Ave., Meadville died Thursday, October 02, 2003 at the Meadville Medical Center.
He was born July 27, 1920 in Rapid City, SD a son of Wilbert W. and Clara A. Lannon Short. He married Louise Pyle June 19, 1976 and she survives.
He retired in 1982 from the Conrail Railroad and its predecessor Erie-Lackawanna Railroad after 41 years of service.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was active at several volunteer organizations over the years. In his retirement he and his wife spent several winters in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 27 years, include two sons, George P. Schmidt of Nine Miles Falls, WA and Thomas P. Schmidt of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; a daughter, Judith Ann Schmidt of Meadville; five grandchildren, John Morrow, Scott Morrow, Susan Morrow Maxwell, Louise Bliss and Stephen Schmidt; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty McKee and her husband Richard of Saegertown and Marcella Magill and her husband Clyde of Portland, ME. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Darlene Morrow; a sister, Bethania Southall and a brother, Wilbert Short.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church and the Rev. Richard Haugh, officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Crawford Unit, 464 Pine St., Meadville, PA 16335.
