John R. Beuchat

September 25, 1901 — January 29, 1963

John R. Beuchat, 61, of Gasteiger Road, Crawford County, register and recorder and chairman of the county Republican Committee, died Tuesday, January 29, 1963, at Spencer Hospital.

Mr. Beuchat had returned to the hospital recently after having been a patient there several months during an illness which extended over about a year.  Death was attributed to cancer.

The Gasteiger Road man, a native of Saegertown where he was born Septmeber 25, 1901, spent much of his life in Randolph Township.  He had been in public office for many years and was active in Republican county politics for more than 30 years.  He was elected register and recorder in the fall of 1961 and assumed office January 1, 1962.

Eariler, he had served as deputy register and recorder for nine years, from 1943 to 1952, after two years as a county auditor.  He was appointed chief clerk in the county commissioners' office in 1952 and served until his election as register and recorder.

Prior to his entry into public service, Mr. Beuchat was in the insurance busniess as an agent for the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co.  While living in Randolph Township he served as secretary of the board of township supervisors.

He was graduated from Randolph High School at Guys Mills and from Meadville Commercial College.  He took extension work in economics at the University of Pittsburgh and accounting at LaSalle College in Chicago.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church; Crawford Masonic Lodge 234; Erie Scottish Rite Bodies;  Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie; Meadville Kiwanis Club; the Italian Civic Club; Meadville Salvation Army Advisory Board; and West Mead 2 Volunteer Fire Department.  In 1960 he served as chairman of county Cancer Crusade.

Surviving are his widow, the former Lillian Foulk; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Gerry) Daniels of Franklin; his father, Frank Beuchat of Guys Mills, and three granddaugher.  His mother, Mrs. Blanche M. Smith Beuchat, died June 15, 1962.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
