John Thomas Hank, 72, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Meadville Medical Center following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born February 8, 1943 in Meadville, a son of Austin P. and Sara T. Hills Hank. He married Martha Barber October 14, 1978 and she survives.
John was a 1961 graduate of Saegertown High School. He worked for over 25 years at Abex Corporation as a maintenance electrician and subsequently worked for Devore Construction Company.
John attended New Beginnings Church of God. He was a member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219, Western Crawford Masonic Lodge 258, Coudersport Consistory, Kismet Grotto, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie and the Shrine’s Camel Herders. He also was a member of Meadville Eagles Aerie 429, Hayfield Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Norrisville Sportsman’s Club. John enjoyed gardening, was a former Little League and Big League baseball coach, and loved classic cars.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Martha of 36 years, include a daughter, Angela Hank and her partner Lisa VanSavage of Leonardo, NJ; a son, Vincent Hank and his wife Dana of Clarence Center, NY; two grandsons, Austin and Aiden Hank; a brother, A. Paul Hank and his companion Dee Blanchard of Hartstown; a brother-in-law, Wilton L. Barber and his wife Jan of Allison Park; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with an Elks service at 7:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:45 p.m.
The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Cliff Forbes, Pastor of New Beginnings Church of God, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
