John W. "Bud" Montgomery

John W. “Bud” Montgomery, 96 of Sandy Lake Twp, Stoneboro, passed away on November 10, 2019 at St. Paul Homes. Bud was born in Grove City to the late John S. and Hazel E. (Kerr) Montgomery and attended Grove City High School. He worked for Charlie Kopta, Palmer Pools, Cooper Bessemer, Dye’s Sand and Gravel, as a self-employed truck driver, as well as served as a Sandy Lake Twp Supervisor for 26 years. Bud was a longtime member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and most recently a member of Scotch Hill Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing, his favorite course being Hunter’s Station, and watching westerns. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and riding his horses. Bud married his beloved wife, Florence Montgomery on December 11, 1950, she preceded him in death on July 22, 2000. Bud remarried on June 29, 2003 to the former Edna Rodgers, she preceded him in death on December 14, 2013. Bud is survived by his children, Tom Montgomery and wife Marlene of Sandy Lake, and Amy Brienik and husband Robert of Austintown, OH; grandchildren Jonathan Hicks and wife Heidi of Salem, OH, and Benjamin Hicks and wife Marisa of Columbus, GA; great-grandchildren Reese and Kennedy Hicks and one more on the way; and sisters Doris Kilgore, Vivian Lewis, and Ruth Careless. In addition to his wives and parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Montgomery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of SANDY LAKE, 3236 S. Main Street, where family and friends are welcome from 4-7 pm on Thursday, Nov. 14. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 7 pm at the funeral home with the Pastor Evelyn Beebe, pastor of Scotch Hill Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will take place in Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City. Memorials may be made in Bud’s name to the Lakeview Area Library, PO Box 622, Sandy Lake.
