John W. Marin

John (JW) Marin, 73, of Meadville, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, November 3, 2018.

He was born in Geneva Pennsylvania on May 20, 1945 to the late Lida Martin Marin and the late John Marin, Sr.

JW married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia, on August 14, 1962.  “I’ve loved him since he was 11 years old,” said Patricia.  She survives.

JW worked at the Meadville Malleable upon graduation from Conneaut Lake High School in 1963, and then dedicated his career to public safety by joining the Pennsylvania State Police in November 7, 1968

JW served as a sniper, patrol trooper, public information officer, and liaison to the U.S. Marshals Service, but he spent most of his career as a criminal investigator. To quote a former prosecutor who worked alongside JW on a three-year, multi-state investigation, “He was one of the best detectives I ever worked with.” JW was awarded the Letter of Commendation by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for his work on that case. JW valued the relationships he formed in the State Police far after his retirement in 1994.

JW was an avid reader, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and studied martial arts, earning his Black Belt in Kung Fu and Red Sash in Kuntao in 1975.

In addition to his wife, JW is survived by five children, Junae (Bill) Hough, Shelly (Mike) Price, John A. (Diana) Marin, Troy (Lori) Marin, and Jason (Jennifer) Marin, all of whom gave him his greatest joy, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings Evonne (Lance) Denman and Sam (Rita) Marin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Likewise, he is survived by those he thought of as brother, Edward Carr and Ernie (Claudia) Wescott. He was the Godfather of Edward and Kaine Marin and thought of his niece Gina Ellis as his sixth child. He was proceeded in death by his parents, a sister, Beverly Clayton, and a step-granddaughter, Kristi Lynn Evanoff.
