John Wesley 'Jack' Lang, Jr.

June 22, 1931 — September 13, 2001

John Wesley “Jack” Lang, Jr., 70, of 404 Hartz Ave., Meadville, died Thursday, September 13, 2001 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born In Meadville, June 22, 1931, he was the son of John Wesley Lang, Sr. and Irene Margaret DeGrange.  He married Donna Cannon August 9, 1952.

He was a 1949 graduate of Meadville High School and a 1953 graduate of Allegheny College where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.  He was owner and operator of Lang Motors at Market and North Streets.  He was the second generation of the Lang family to operate the enterprise.  In 1952 he joined his father full time at the family business that continues today operated by his sons, Dane and Don.

He was a 59-year member of Stone United Methodist Church and its church choir, a member of the National Independent Auto Dealers Assoc., a member and past director of the Pennsylvania Independent Auto Dealers Assoc., a founding member of the Yesterday’s Sound Barbershop Chorus, a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, a member of the Allegheny Jazz Society and the Sarasota, FL Jazz Society, a member of the Meadville Medical Center Board of Incorporators, a member of First National Bank of PA Board of Directors and a founding member of the Meadville Figure Skating Club.  He enjoyed travel, music, antiques, his friends and family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 49 years, include two sons, Dane Lang and his wife Cathy of Conneaut Lake and Don Lang and his wife Diane of Conneaut Lake; a brother, Robert H. Lang and his wife Betty of Surfside Beach, SC; four grandsons, Adam, Ryan, Michael and David and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville.

The funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stone United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Brown, Visitation Pastor of the church and the Rev. Jim Hammerlee, retired United Methodist clergyman, officiating.

Burial will be in Hadley Cemetery, Hadley, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main Street, Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
