Joseph P. Kasan

December 18, 1924 — September 23, 2012

Joseph P. Kasan, 87, of 10659 Liberty Street Ext., Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community for the past 9 months, passed over to the Lord’s arms Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the Meadville Medical Center.

He was born December 18, 1924 in Ford City, PA a son of Stefan and Anna Soska Kasan.  He married Marion G. Baillie January 19, 1952 and she preceded him in death July 27, 2010.

Following school he worked on the family farm and also as a meat cutter.  He then served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater from 1943-1945.  He worked for PPG Industries for 43 years first in Ford City, then Clarksburg, WV and finally in Meadville retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. Agatha Church.  He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially the Steelers and the Pirates.  He enjoyed plastic canvas needlepoint, hunting, fishing and remodeling and maintaining his home and yard.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula Kasan of Meadville and Marion Antwine and her husband Wilbur of Meadville; a son, Steven Kasan and his wife Judy of Franklinville, NC; four grandchildren, Joseph Kasan, Suzanne Rubner, Matthew Antwine and Dustin Kasan; a brother Steve Kasan of Ford City and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ignatius Kasan and John Kasan and a sister, Marge Hadden.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine Street, Meadville with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, Celebrant.

Interment with military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
