Joseph Tomiczek

Joseph Tomiczek, 89, of Meadville, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 13, 1923 in Harmarville, a son of John and Anna Lance Tomiczek.  He married Phyllis Crouch December 18, 1949 and she survives.

Joseph attended Carnegie Mellon University and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations.  He worked as a plant chemist for 35 years at PPG before retiring in 1984.

Joseph was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville, and a former member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 234.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and gardening.  He was a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Phyllis of over 63 years, include four daughters, Susan Zurney and her husband Raymond of Meadville, Nancy Myers and her husband Robert of New Kensington, Sally Wolff and her husband Bradley of Fairport, NY, and Melissa Clayton and her husband Garry of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Adam, and Brian Zurney, Brandon Decker and his fiancée Kelle Hufcut, Rachel Williamson and her husband Timothy, and Abbey, Dorian, and Hailey Wolff; a great-grandson, Damion Decker; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

There are no calling hours.

A private family memorial service will be held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with the Rev. Benjamin Travis, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating and military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 649 Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
