Josephine M. Simonette-Furno, 90, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died there Thursday, February 23, 2006.
She was born in Meadville January 8, 1916, a daughter of the late Joseph and Martina DeMarco Simonette. She married Matteo T. Furno June 25, 1938 and he preceded her in death December 22, 1985.
She was a 1934 graduate of Meadville High School. She was a homemaker, had worked as a crossing guard for the city of Meadville for 14 years, and was a beautician, having completed cosmetology school in New York City.
She was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church.
She was a member of the Italian Civic Club Auxiliary, formerly very active at the Meadville Senior Center, and enjoyed cooking and especially being with her family.
Survivors include 4 sons, D. Steve Furno and his wife Diane of Laurel Springs, NC; Matteo T. Furno, Jr. and his wife Maureen of Milwaukee, WI; Joseph D. Furno and his wife Rita of Meadville; and William D. Furno and his wife Barbara of Meadville; 1 brother, Sam Simonette and his wife Kay of Meadville; 3 sisters, Rose Palmeiro of Meadville; Angeline Furno of Meadville; and Mary Rendulic of Conneautville; 10 grandchildren, Martina Hale, Gina Althoff, Stephen Furno, Louisa Furno, Michael Furno, David Furno, Robert Furno, Maria Furno, Richard Furno, and Crystal Quail; 6 great-grandchildren, Tanner, Dakota, Christian, Elijah, Jade, and Coleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Theodore Furno, a granddaughter, Michelle Furno, a brother, Joseph Simonette, and 2 sisters, Madeline “Anne” Gattuso and Antoninette Grippi.
Calling hours will be today (Friday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville with Father Mark Hoffman as Celebrant.
Entombment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
