June Broms McCaskey, 87, formerly of Meadville and a resident of Springhill Retirement Community, Erie for the past 10 years, passed away there Monday, December 4, 2006.
She was born in Oil City, PA on April 16, 1919, the only child of Ray E. and Gladys Reed Heffern. She was a 1937 graduate of Oil City High School. In May of that year she married Edward James Broms of Utica, PA and they resided in Meadville until his death in 1980. Early in her career she was employed by Kaufmann’s Department Store as their Meadville representative, and later held positions at the Crawford County Trust Company, the American Viscose Corporation and in the Office of the Registrar at Allegheny College. In 1984, she married Reed McCaskey and she divided her time between their homes in Meadville and Ormond Beach, Florida and later, Sun City, Arizona.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Meadville and the Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lt. Cmdr. Edward James Broms, Jr. whose aircraft was lost over North Vietnam in 1968. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Broms Waddell and her husband Charles of Asheville, NC and her husband Reed’s children, John R. McCaskey and his wife Diann of Meadville and Thomas G. McCaskey of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Waddell of East Haddam, CT, Andrew Waddell of Asheville, NC, Kim McCaskey Lee and her husband Philip and son Spencer of Pittsburgh, Kristen McCaskey of Erie and Stephen McCaskey and his wife Jennifer of Fountain Hills, AZ.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
Interment at a later date will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
