June A. Nichols

June A. Nichols, 98, of Meadville, died peacefully at home Monday, January 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Meadville on June 18, 1926, a daughter of Raymond L. Butcher, Sr. and Thelma May (Gushard) Palmiero. On May 14, 1947, June married Howard Ellery Nichols, he proceeded her in death on June 28, 2010.

June was a 1945 graduate of Meadville Area High School. Over the years June worked at A & P Store, Talon, and The Meadville Tribune. She also provided childcare and enjoyed children. 

June was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She loved raising flowers, wildlife, birds, walking, and her numerous bus trips with Howard, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Bonnie Browder of Meadville, Lynda Nichols of Meadville, Terri Nichols of Raleigh, NC, and Debby Atkins of Meadville; a sister-in-law, Iva Lee Nichols; ; five grandchildren, Karyn Siegel (Brad), Greg Atkins, Richard Atkins (Melissa), Kimberly Kokoszka (Gunar), and Nichole Arroyo (Ed); an aunt Joyce Butcher Garris of Pittsburgh; her aide Lewrose Myers who was always one step ahead of June’s needs; many great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Raymond L. Butcher, Jr., a brother, Clifton Butcher, and two sons-in-law Samuel Browder and Dick Atkins, great granddaughter Kelsey Atkins.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday 1-24-25 at 2:00 PM in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with Rev. Kendra Balliet, Pastor of Bethany United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday 1-24-25 from 1:00 PM until the time of service.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
