Katherine "Kate" J. Magee

Katherine “Kate” J. Magee, known to many as “Aunt Kate”, 72 of Sandy Lake, passed away on November 25, 2018 at 1:10 PM at Grove Manor in Grove City, surrounded by family. Kate was born in New Lebanon on November 8, 1946 to the late Charles Owens and Blanche Johnston Owens. She was a 1964 graduate of Lakeview High School and worked for many years at Slater Ford outside Sandy Lake and ran a Notary Business. Kate married her beloved husband, Barry Magee on December 11, 1976 at the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, he preceded her in death on April 16, 2012. Kate and her husband had been members of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church. She was also involved with the Democratic Women of Mercer County, she was a member of many card clubs, and served as a board member of the McKeever Environmental Learning Center. She loved to knit and crochet and had a deep love for animals. She loved her nieces and nephews and always was willing to help them out. She will be remembered for her kindness, quick wit, and great sense of humor. Kate is survived by her siblings, Charles E. “Ernie” Owens (Rebecca), Dayton, OH, William Owens (Jean), Oil City, Avis Owens Amon (Danny), Franklin, nieces and nephews Scott (Bonnie), Mark (Debbie), Gary (Wanda), David, William (Linda), Rick (Betty), and Rita (Linda Conder), all Owens, Doug Amon (Sara), Joyce Bower (Curtis) Mary Ann Brunton (Dan), John Ruggles (Nanette), Teresa Oakes (Rick), Melonie Magee, Rick Magee, Doug Dick (Mary), and Gail Griffin (Donald), and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where family and friends are welcome from 1 pm – 2:45 pm on Saturday, December 1. A Memorial Service will follow visitation at 3 pm with the Reverend Elizabeth Creekpaum, pastor of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, officiating. Inurnment will be private.
