Katherine M. Durfee, 83, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since January 1986, a former teacher, died Saturday, May 23, 1992 at Wesbury after an extended illness.
She was born October 5, 1908, in Cleveland, a daughter of George and Margaret Sayre Bowes. She married Otis C. Durfee, Sr., June 24, 1933. He preceded her in death December 28, 1982.
She retired from teaching public school after 30 years. She spent 23 years teaching in Meadville and the rest of the time in Stuben, Randolph, Black Ash, and Richmond schools. She did graduate work at Penn State University and Edinboro.
She was a member of the Meadville Wesleyan Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher and church secretary.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. R. James (Mary Lou) Gurnee of Meadville; four sons, David L. Durfee, Sr. of Saegertown, Thomas A. of Girard, Mark O. of Erie and the Rev. John B. Durfee of Salem, OH; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Otis C., Jr., three sisters, Harriet Johnson, Grace Shaw and Helen Daniels; and two brothers, George and Arthur Bowes.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kingsley Cemetery.
