Katherine M. (Katie) Mattis, 95, of Frenchtown, died Friday, May 27, 2022 at UPMC-Hamot, Erie.
She was born February 11, 1927 in Sadsbury Twp. a daughter of Paul and Louise Bodish Knierman. She married Andrew P. Mattis September 23, 1946 and he preceded her in death May 20, 2016.
She was a 1944 graduate of Linesville High School and first worked at Talon. Then after her children were older she worked at Randolph East Mead Schools, then Carlisle’s and then as a switchboard operator at Meadville Medical Center. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou Young of Meadville; three sons, Paul Mattis (Elaine) of Poinciana, FL, Thomas Mattis (Marylou) of Franklin Pike and Jeffery Mattis (Allison) of Frenchtown; six grandchildren, Kimberly Wilcox (Darrel), Adam Mattis (Jenelle), Ann Mattis, Steven Mattis (Kathryn), Molly Smith (Brandon) and Jennifer Cain (Christopher); two step-grandchildren, Lydia Sleeman and Luke Sleeman; six great grandchildren, Derik Wilcox (Erin), Dallas Wilcox Acker (Lucas), Sara Bilal, Violet Mattis, Emma Mattis and Savannah Smith; one step great granddaughter, Stephanie Biondo; two great great grandchildren, Cameron Wilcox and Adelynn Wilcox; two step great great grandchildren, Devyn Biondo and Dylan Biondo; three sisters, Pauline Baker of Saegertown, Marjorie Kline (Edward) of Linesville and Gladys Mickle of Linesville; one brother, August (Fred) Knierman (Shirley) of Erie and one brother-in-law, Hubert Vogan of Cochranton and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Shirley Vogan, Gertrude Baughman, Betty Agnew and Dorothy Poux.
Calling hours will be Friday, June 3, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 6:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Church, 26012 N. Frenchtown Road, Guys Mills with Fr. Michael DeMartinis as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Hippolyte Church, 26012 N. Frenchtown Road, Guys Mills, PA 16327.
