Kenneth A. Beers, Jr.

Kenneth A. Beers, 51, of Meadville, the city engineer and director of public works for Meadville, died Thursday, September 19, 1991, at Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an illness of several months.

He was born in Meadville, October 22, 1939, a son of Kenneth A. and Dorothy Hartman Beers, Sr.  He married Ina Rae Johnston, August 7, 1965.  She survives.

Beers was city engineer and director of public works for Meadville and he had been employed by the city since 1963.  He was a registered professional engineer and registered land surveyor and was a member of several professional organizations, including the National Society of Professional Engineers.

He was a member of St. Agatha's Roman Catholic Church; Elks Lodge 219; Taylor Hose Club; and the Italian Civic Club.  He was a member and a past president of Meadville Lions Club.  He was a former member of the Meadville Jaycees.

For Meadville's 1988 bicentennial celebration, Beers served on the Meadville Bicentennial Committee as chairman of the log cabin construction project in Bicentennial Park.  He was a 1958 graduate of Meadville High School.  He was recipient of Elks Lodge 219's Elk Citizen of the Year award in 1989.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Karen Beers, at home; his mother, Dorothy Alter of Meadville; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Barb) Freyermuth of Meadville and Mrs. John (Linda) Beinhardt of Oil City; one brother, Thomas E. Beers of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Agatha's Church.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
