Kenneth E. Steele

Kenneth E. Steele, 87, a former Meadville and Erie resident, and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since July 1995, died Monday, December 25, 2000 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Meadville, January 30, 1913, a son of the late Plummer E. and Blanche Ewing Steele.  He married Esther L. Baldwin January 7, 1935 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Meadville High School and had attended Kent State University.  He had been employed by the J.C. Penny Co. from 1927 to 1950.  He returned to Meadville in 1950 as merchandise manager and public relations director for the Crawford Store and retired as store manager of the Zayre Co. store of Akron, OH in 1974.  When living in Meadville, he had been a Director of the Crawford County Credit Bureau, a member of the Meadville Area Chamber of Commerce, Meadville Rotary Club, and Stone United Methodist Church.

He currently was a member of First United Methodist Church, Erie.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include one son, Thomas E. Steele (Lorett) of Plattsburgh, NY; one daughter, Nancy Marconi (Philip) of Monroe Township, NJ; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
