Kenneth K. Robertson, Sr.

June 22, 1914 — May 14, 1997

Kenneth K. Robertson, Sr., 82, of Meadville, a patient at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, May 1995, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997 at Meadville Medical Center after a period of declining health.

He was born in Pittsburgh, June 22, 1914, a son of the late James R. and Florence Green Robertson.  He married Josephine Yolton August 30, 1940 and she preceded him in death on October 15, 1984.

He worked during World War II as a sheet metal worker for Dravo Corp. on Nevil Island in the Pittsburgh area helping to build LST's for the Navy.  In the late 1940's, he and his family moved to Meadville and he worked as a sales representative for International Milling Co. selling Robin Hood flour. He later founded Robertson Safety Equipment in 1959 and retired in 1974 when he sold the business to his son, Bill.

He was a 1933 graduate of Oliver High School, Pittsburgh, where he excelled in football.  He attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College on a football scholarship where he played fullback and was a member of the track and field team.  He was probably best known locally for his barbershop singing as a member of the Fountainairs Barbershop Quartet.  He had been an active member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America and was a founding member of the French Creek Valley Chapter.  He was also a former member of Elks Lodge #219.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth K. Robertson, Jr. of Dover, DE, William E. Robertson of Meadville, Douglas A. Robertson of Meadville and Donald B. Robertson of Indiana, PA; a sister, Sarah Ehrhardt of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James A. of Charles G. Robertson and two sisters, Mary Robertson and Agnes Schall.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
