Kenneth Stratton Murphy, 74, of Jamestown died April 29, 2010 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach after a brief illness. He was born November 6, 1935 in Roselle, New Jersey, the son of Helen Moore Murphy and Dr. Herschel Stratton Murphy. He married Kristin Ann Coleman on August 26, 1961 at Four Mile Presbyterian Church, Beaver, PA.
He served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. In 1954 Ken graduated from Kimball Union Academy, NH. He graduated from Thiel College in 1962 and then later received his Master Degree in education from Westminster College. He worked for Maplewood School District in Trumbull County, OH with over 30 years of service.
He was a life member of the Trumbull County Retired Teachers Association and Ohio Retired Teachers Association, a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Sons of American Revolution and Founders and Patriots. He was a member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church where, in the past, he had served as Elder and Deacon. He was an Alumni of Thiel College, Westminster, and Kimball Union Associations. Having been active in the Masonic Lodge, Ken was a member of Adelphic Lodge 424 F&AM, Jamestown; Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Valley of New Castle; Sharon Council No. 48 Royal & Select Master Masons; Mound Royal Arch Chapter No. 212, Greenville; and Mount Calvary Commandery No. 67 Knights Templar, Greenville.
In addition to being active in various organizations, Ken enjoyed attending car shows, spending summers with family and friends in his lifelong vacation spot of Oxford Maine, working on crossword puzzles, and attending concerts in the park. He was particularly fond of any and all time that he spent with family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Kristin, of Jamestown, PA; son, Kenneth Sean Murphy and wife Anna Marie Murphy of North Olmsted, OH; daughter, Kristin M. Wagner and husband Jonathan M. Wagner of Beaver Falls, PA; granddaughter, Ella Marie Murphy; grandson, Stratton Thomas Murphy; brother, Robert Field Murphy and wife Val of Oradell, NJ; sister, Marilyn Murphy Bunnell and husband, Gene of Albany, NY and 5 nieces and 3 nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 22nd from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Jamestown Presbyterian Church on Liberty Street, Jamestown. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00am with Reverend Donald Stanley officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 10:30am at the church by Adelphic Lodge 424 of Jamestown. Jamestown Veterans Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
