Kenneth T. Boyd, 84, of Meadville, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Rolling Fields following a period of declining health.
He was born September 24, 1927 in Meadville, a son of Line and Anna Crane Boyd. He married Dorothy Glenn February 19, 1950 at First Christian Church, Meadville.
Ken attended Meadville public schools and was a member of First Christian Church. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1948. He served in the Occupations Army as a guard at Sugamo Prison, Tokyo, Japan with the military police.
Ken was self-employed as an upholsterer until 1978 when he and Dorothy moved to Wilkesboro, NC for a few years and he worked as head inspector at the American Drew Furniture Company. After returning to the Meadville area, he worked as a driver for Wykoff’s Transportation. He was a member of the Saegertown American Legion Post 205 and the Sugamo Prison Reunion Association. He enjoyed gardening and doing anything outdoors.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Dorothy of 61 years, include a daughter, Rebecca Miller and her husband Daniel of Bangor, MI; two sons, Kelly Boyd and his wife Roberta of Ashland, PA and Kerry Boyd of Meadville; four grandchildren, Janice Norrix and her husband Gregory of Portage, MI, Danelle Nash of Kalamazoo, MI, Ryan Miller and his wife Evelyn of Davenport, IA, and Gabrielle Boyd of Atlantic; five great-grandchildren, Misti Jo and Alonnah Cauvel, Abigail Nash, Isaiah Miller and Gage Norrix, all of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Johnston and three great-grandchildren, Alissa Nash, Ridge Norrix, and baby Miller.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral and committal service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Roger Smith, Associate Minister of First Christian Church officiating.
Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
