Kenneth Woodward Leeper, 79, of Meadville, a retired state trooper and US Navy veteran, died Wednesday, January 6, 1993, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born in Frederickstown, May 8, 1913, a son of Luke S. and Bertha Woodward Leeper. He married Margaret Jane Patton. She survives.
He was a retired Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant, retiring in 1973 after 35 years of service. He enlisted with the state police in 1938 after serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Pennsylvania from 1932-36. He completed assignments at several police stations in western Pennsylvania, including Meadville, Franklin, Warren, Erie and Washington. During his career, his assignments include garage supervisor for four counties, officer in charge of the criminal investigation unit at Erie station, commander of Meadville station, commander of the Franklin station and commander of the criminal investigation section at Washington station.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Meadville and a Church Council member. He was a member of Swanson Memorial Lodge 48; Fraternal Order of Police, Erie; Retired State Police Assn., Erie; Pennsylvania Assn. of Retired State Employees, where he had served two years as treasurer; Crawford Masonic Lodge 234, Meadville; Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191, Meadville; Northwestern Commandry No. 25, Meadville; the Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie; Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie; Crawford County Shrine Club, where he was a past president; West County Shrine Club, Edinboro, where he was a past president; Kismet Grotto; and Meadville Elks Lodge 219. He was graduate of Monongahela High School.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. John (Tallye) McCall of Dayton and Mrs. Robert (Kendra) Ploski of Meadville; two sisters, Ruth Baxter of Monongahela and Virginia Yetter of Springfield, MN and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Leeper.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
