Larue Hanks

December 10, 1885 — July 7, 1966

Larue Hanks, 80, a retired Erie Railroad car mechanic who resided in Meadville, died Thursday, July 7, 1966, at WCA Hospital, Jamestown, NY, after a brief illness.  He had been a patient at the hospital for a week.

Born at Guys Mills, December 10, 1885, he was a son of William P. and Mary Hunter Hanks.  His wife, the former Flossie Belle Shorts, died in 1943.  They were married December 24, 1906.

Mr. Hanks worked on the railroad for a total of 33 years.  He was a retired member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America.

He is survived by a granddaughter, Dr. Charlene Brown of Meadville; and a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Lou Brown.  A daughter, Mrs. Carletta Bertram, died in August 1965.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
