Laura Agnes Copeland, 90, formerly of Blooming Valley and a current resident of Beverly Healthcare, Meadville, died there Saturday, August 09, 2003 following a long and heroic battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born June 28, 1913 in Rocky Grove Township, Venango County, a daughter of the late Orine C. and Lydia Ralston Galbraith. She married her beloved, Harry (Shorty) Copeland August 30, 1930 and he preceded her in death August 8, 1974.
She retired from Talon in 1975 as a slider inspector following 35 years of service. She was a member of the Blooming Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Slide Fasteners Union. Following retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Ireland, and throughout the U.S. visiting family and friends. She was an avid reader, and an incredible cook and gardener. Prior to her illness, she faithfully visited the residents of the Crawford County Care Center, Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, and Beverly Healthcare. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and had attended Grace United Methodist Church. She was a faithful servant of the Lord.
She will be sadly missed by her survivors, which include 3 sons, Richard H. Copeland and his wife Shirley of Cochranton; Terry O. Copeland and his wife Janet of Saegertown; and Daniel P. Copeland and his wife Jeroldine of Tallmadge, OH; 10 grandchildren, David Copeland, Diane Arbuckle; Kathy Briggs, Thomas Copeland, Robert Copeland, Vaughn Copeland, Bret Copeland, Jan McElhinny, Debra Walp, and Kellie Copeland; and 13 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; and 9 step-great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Sara (Sally) Copeland, Eva Brooks, and Bedelia (Pat Anderson); a brother, Cecil Galbraith; and a grandson, Daniel (Opie) Copeland.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
