Layne D. Spencer, 84, of Meadville, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, Layne was born in Charleroi, PA, the daughter of Glenn and Betty Davis. Layne was married to her beloved husband Larry Spencer for 58 years, until his death on May 28, 2017. Layne was proceeded in death by a son Craig Spencer who passed on September 24, 2021.

Layne was a 1957 graduate of Charleroi High School. After high school, she performed many different jobs throughout her career. Her first job was to care for infants at a home for unwed mothers in Pittsburgh. While raising her four children, she was a teacher’s aide at an elementary school in Laurel, MD. After moving to Wilmington, DE with her family, she received her Real Estate license and was an assistant manager of a bank. In 1975, Layne and her family moved to Meadville where Layne and her husband Larry purchased the family-owned business Duerr’s Flowers.  After closing Duerr’s Flowers, Layne spent her retirement years caring for children in her home and supporting CASA in Meadville as a child advocate. Throughout Layne’s life, her biggest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family vacations to the beach.

Survivors include two sons, Keith Spencer and wife Stacie of New Market, MD, Scott Spencer and wife Yvonne of Damascus, MD; a daughter Lisa Stockton and Mark Weber of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Madi Spencer, Jeffrey and his wife Alex, Sara and Timmy Spencer, Clayton Stockton, Meghan Stockton and Nick Nelson, and Cohl Weber; three great-grandchildren, Blaine and Bo Spencer and Grady Nelson.

Calling hours will be Saturday, December 16th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. Service and interment private.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), 310 Chestnut St., Suite 232, Meadville, PA 16335.
