Layton H. Miller

Layton H. Miller, 88, formerly of Meadville and Zephyr Hills, FL, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Crawford County Care Center.

He was born May 5, 1921 in Carlton, a son of the late Ross and Phoebe Elliott Miller.  He marred Neva M. Foulk March 8, 1943.

Layton was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operations with the 80th Infantry Division and was a Purple Heart recipient.  He was employed as a machinist for the Dept. of Defense and the General Services Administration for 17 years, retiring in 1976.  He previously worked at McCrosky Tool Co., Meadville.

Layton was a member of First Christian Church, Meadville, Masonic Lodge 349, Alexandria, VA, Charles Stafford American Legion Post 111, Meadville, and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans 79, Meadville.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Neva of 66 years, include several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 sisters, Dora Miller, Ava Peterman, Jessie Napper, Agnes Dilley, Florence Crabb, and Evelyn Jones.

Calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. provided by Crawford Lodge 234.

A funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Terry Clark, Pastor of First Christian Church officiating and military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
