Leatha A. Humes

Leatha A. Humes, 95, formerly of Guys Mills and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

She was born April 10, 1925 in Richmond Township, Crawford County, a daughter of Frank Wilbur and Phoebe Swift Humes.

Leatha was a 1943 graduate of Randolph High School, 1947 graduate of Houghton College with a B.A. in English, and Bible, Art and Education minors, and 1972 graduate of Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary with a Masters in Religious Education and where she also received her honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree in 1979.

Leatha taught school in New York for two years and at Prairie Bible High School and Institute for five years.  She subsequently was a missionary to Indonesia for 35 years from 1966 to 1990 and returned to the mission field from 1991 to 2005.

Leatha was a member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills.

Survivors include several cousins.

Calling hour will be Thursday, January 7th from 10 to 11 a.m. at the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, 11534 State Hwy 198 Guys Mills where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Marchetta, Wesbury Chaplain, officiating.  The wearing of masks is required.  The service will be livestreamed at Guys Mills Church.

Interment will be in Gravel Run Cemetery.
