Lela I. Slingluff

Lela I. Slingluff, 94, of Townville, died Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Meadville Medical Center.

She was born in Richmond Township, Crawford County, July 13, 1916 a daughter of Erl and Fern Lowing Ingraham.  She married Robert W. Slingluff April 25, 1942 and he preceded her in death May 9, 1996.

She was an elementary school teacher in the Blooming Valley, New Richmond and Townville Schools for 39 years, retiring in 1974.

She was a graduate of Townville High School, received her Bachelor's degree from the former Edinboro State Teachers College and her Master's degree from Penn State University.  She was a 50-year member and past Worthy Matron of the former Acacia Chapter #30, Titusville (which is now part of Golden Crown Chapter #44) Order of Eastern Star.  She was a charter member of Allegheny Court #115 Order of the Amaranth, a member of Townville Lions Club and a life member of the Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and National Education Associations.

She was a member of the Townville United Methodist Church.

Survivors, include a sister, Louise Douglas of Cambridge Springs; a niece, Beverly Nutter and her husband Jack of Meadville; two nephews, Carl Douglas and his wife Joyce of Cambridge Springs and Ruric (Corky) Douglas and his wife Brenda of Meadville; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and a great-great-great-nephew.

Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with an Order of Eastern Star service Monday at 5:45 p.m.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Beverly Spore, Pastor of Townville United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
