Lenore S. Postance, 101, a longtime Meadville resident and a resident of the Mentor Way Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Mentor, Ohio for the past two years, died there Wednesday, December 12, 2007.
She was born in Summit Twp., Crawford Co., PA December 17, 1905 a daughter of the late Fred B. and Sarah “Sadie” Harper Smith. She married Alton Postance May 1, 1929 and he preceded her in death April 17, 1994.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of Postance News here in Meadville.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and a charter member of the former Meadville Lioness Club. She was also a 1924 graduate of Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing.
Survivors, include: six grandchildren, Sherry Dougherty of Willoughby, OH, Kathy Moody of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Al McConnell of Rochester, NY, Beth Ann McCauley, Jennifer Repine and Sarah Postance; 12 great grandchildren, a sister, Virgilia Unger and her husband Robert of Rochester, NY, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great great niece.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha McConnell; a son, Alton “Bud” Postance and three brothers and four sisters.
Calling hours will be Monday from 12 - 1 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Travis Webster, Assoc. Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
