Leroy M. McDaniel, 80, of Guys Mills, died at home Saturday, June 1, 1985, after a sudden heart attack.
He was born at Wayne Township, February 17, 1905, a son of Robert and Lydia Lucetta Heath McDaniel. He married Gertrude Edgerton, July 6, 1929.
McDaniel was employed for two years as a teacher in Wayne Township. Previous employment was with Metropolitan Life Institute Company in the Detroit area for 33 years. During this time, he was also self-employed as a nurseryman. His store was American Perennial Gardens, Garden City, MI, from which he retired in 1967 before returning to Crawford County.
He was a graduate of Cochranton Public Schools and attended the former Edinboro State Normal School. He was a member of the Unitarian Church of Meadville, Crawford County Historical Society, Round Table, American Rock Garden Society and Scottish Rock Garden Society.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. George (Katherine) Smith of Sylacauga, AL; three sons, James E. McDaniel of Bethlehem, John R. McDaniel of Cochranton and Charles W. McDaniel of North East; three sisters, Mrs. Harry (Bernice) McElhaney of Meadville, Mrs. James (Velma) Roha of Meadville and Miss Blanche McDaniel of Warren; two brothers, Ira McDaniel of Cochranton and Charles McDaniel of Guys Mills; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
