Lester Gordon Sutley, Sr.

May 15, 1926 — June 30, 2018

Lester Gordon Sutley, Sr., 92, of Guys Mills, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 30, 2018.

He was born May 15, 1926 in Guys Mills, a son of the late Harland and Margaret Armstrong Sutley.  He married Dorothy (Dotty) Marion Beddick June 28, 1944 and she preceded him in death October 8, 2016 following 72 years of marriage.

Lester was a 1944 graduate of Randolph High School.  He was a proud World War II veteran, serving with General Patton in the 3rd Army.  Despite being wounded, he finished his tour of duty and went to work with the NNRA in Germany until 1946.  Upon returning home from the war, he worked with his father and brothers building and repairing houses in the area.

Lester loved going to junk yards and enjoyed buying and fixing cars for resale.  He worked for Erie-Lackawanna Railroad for 29 years until retirement, and then worked part time making deliveries for his son’s tool shop.  He was a lifelong hard worker, always had time to help out family and friends.  He was a great story teller with an amazing memory.  He loved to talk about his time in the military, the houses he built and who he sold them to, his time on the railroad and especially all of his family history, which dates to before the Revolutionary War.

Survivors include two sons, Lester Sutley Jr. and his wife Carol of Guys Mills and Kerry Sutley and his wife Wanda of Guys Mills; three granddaughters, Shana Davis and her husband Eric of Avondale, AZ, Tristan Beaty and her husband Brad of Navarre, FL, and Loren Acevedo and her husband Tony of Guys Mills; two grandsons, Travis and Taylor Sutley of Guys Mills; three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Alexis Ward and Gabriel Beaty; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Sutley; a granddaughter, Bryanne Sutley; three brothers, Kenneth, Clifford and Louis Sutley; and a sister, Gertrude Greathouse.

Services will be private with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
